Coastal Data Buoy

This buoy is 1m in diameter, weighs approx 120 KG and is an ideal plarform for deployment in the coastal sites. It comes complete with solar power, navigation markers and the IDS Data POD

Instruments can be easily mounted above water, on the baffle plates for near surface and/or on the mooring line. The coastal buoy is easy to transport, deploy and service.

Pumped Solutions

Pumped solutions are growing in popularity and usually provide easy and safe access to instruments 24/7. This is a significant advantage when maintaining systems deployed in rivers that tend to flood or in areas close to shore where boat access is difficult or quay mounted systems are not practical.

IDS has developed a pump controller for use with the Data POD and has significant innovations for automatic filter cleaning. IDS now also has developed a pipe network controller which allows easy sampling from multiple locations (and/or depths) with just one set of instuments. Contact us to find our more.

IDS Data-Buff

The IDS Databuff with mutli-instrument data acquisition, telemetry and a power pack starts at €3100 making it the lowest cost real-time databuoy on the market.   The Databuff is light enough to be lifted by one person and can be easily deployed from a small boat or even a rigid inflatable.

The Databuff is modular and has options for adding solar panels for longer term, unattended deployment. It has alternative telemetry modes including GPRS or ISM band radio. The buoy incorporates an IDS Data POD data acquisition system and offers features such as adaptive sampling, advanced alarm functions and can be controlled remotely. It also has integrated GPS for time stamping and position marking.

The Databuff has a 600mm long tail tube (longer options available) for mounting near-surface instrumentation and others can be easily placed along its mooring. This Databuff is intended for use in harbours, bays and  lakes and it's applications include aquaculture, dredge monitoring and water qualty monitoring.

Other Platforms

Masts and Towers - IDS can supply latice or pole masts for applications where instruments must be located off the ground. These masts are used for weather monitoring, air quality monitoring, for camera mountings and more.
Vessel Mounted Systems - Whether on fishing boats, research/survey vessels, naval vessels or on ships of opportunity (e.g. Ferries, pilot boats),  IDS can deliver solution for real-time data collection and telemetry from a wide array of instrumentation. The LE Ciara opposite is one of the Naval Vessels where IDS installed a data acquisition system.

Bridge and Quay Side Platforms - IDS can provide platform infrastructure for mounting instrument systems at the waters edge.  These platforms are usually based on tried and tested IDS design concepts but customised to meet site-specific requirements. IDS are recognised for designing shore-side platforms that allow ease of access for maintaining instruments, which are robust and not unecessarily complex.

Open Space Plaforms - If your application is away from the water in agriculture, forestry, land fill monitoring or any other open space application IDS can provide secure platform solutions  that meets your needs. IDS can provide permanent concrete instrument housings, steel containers or even mobile platforms that are fit for purpose and competitively priced.

ROV  Systems - Whether on a small ROV like a VideoRay or a larger, deeper working vehicle we can provide bespoke data acquisition and telemetry solutions which offer flexibility and bring your data to the surface in real-time.  IDS also supply and service Videoray ROVs.

Related Products and Services

Moorings, Mountings & Assembly -  Designing the main platfrom is only part of the system solution.  Deciding how instruments are mounted on the platform is a critical consideration if users are to achieve trouble free deployment, recovery and efficient maintenance. The IDS team and our partners have significant expertise in this area.

IDS Data-Link Although not part of the physical platform deployed on-site, IDS DataLink is the IT Platform used for receiving, managing and visualising data for deployed systems.  This DataLink system allows users remotely control systems, process incoming data in real-time and visualise the information in a manner that is easily absorbed.

Custom Data Buoy Solutions

Since 1997 IDS has being working with our clients and partners in designing, building and deploying a variety of autonomous platforms ranging from small inshore systems to large offshore data buoys.

The picture opposite shows one of our systems designed for more offshore applications and is based on a Mobilis Jet 7000 buoy hull. Whether a project requires a new platform design, working with an off-the-shelf buoy design or refurbishing an existing platform, we can deliver reliable solutions. A key benefit of the IDS Data Acquisition technology is that our package including the power source is very small and we can deploy

systems on platforms with very little space. This allows IDS piggy-back solutions on existing platforms such as fish cages or navigation markers without a significant impact and this saves clients significant additional investment.

Bottom Mounted Observatory

IDS has developed a small near shore (upto 5Km) cabled, bottom-mounted observatory.

This system is capable of sampling from a wide variety of instrumentation including ADCP, Cameras and a wide range of water quality sensors.

The IDS Observatory can be cabled to a mains power source and cabled telemetry or it can be connected to a renewable power source on shore and with wireless telemetry for data delivery to IDS DataLink.

The IDS Observatory has applications in water quality monitoring, harbour management and security. Our coastal / lake observatory is a solution for sites that are not suitable for data buoys and/or where the monitoring platform is better hidden.

IDS is currently building and installing a fully operational cabled observatory in Lough Derg, (Co Tipperary, Ireland) with ADCP and a range of water quality sensors. It is pproposed to have a live demonstration of data from this observatory on-line by early 2010. For more information on this observatory please contact us.
